Local Businesses Provide Park Defibrillator
7 June 2019A defibrillator has been installed in Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port. The new lifesaving machine is situated on the store building in front of Whitby Lodge thanks to the generous donations from some of the parks residents and users and is accessible 24hrs a day, seven days a week. The Cheshire West and Chester Council localities team were approached by Ellesmere Port Lions asking if a defibrillator could be installed in the park. The Lions along with park residents Action Transport Theatre, Edsential and 1st Enable, agreed to contribute towards the purchase of this life saving equipment which was then installed by the Council. Councillor Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways & Strategic Transport said: “This is a great example of the park community coming together to provide a much needed piece of equipment. Defibrillators can be lifesaving, they are safe and easy to use and will only shock someone if they require it. They are designed to guide the user through the process in such a way that anyone is able to use it. ” North West Ambulance Service said: ” Public access defibrillators are really important in helping to save lives and this new defibrillator being available to members of the community means that people who have a cardiac arrest nearby have a vastly improved chance of survival. “When somebody goes into cardiac arrest, their chance of survival drops by 10 per cent for every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation taking place, this is why it’s vital that people in the community are made aware of what to do and start life-saving work even before we have chance to get there.” There are now numerous defibrillators around Ellesmere Port, members of the public making an emergency 999 call will be directed to the nearest unit. ![]() Photo left to right: Frank Marnel ( EP Lions), Cllr Karen Shore, EP lions members, Jeff Dawson (1st Enable), Steve Talbot (EP Lions), Cllr Rooney, Jess Egan-Simon (ATT), Andrew Allmark (Edsential), Nick Blair ( NW Ambulance Service).
