Officers are working with an victim of a scam in the Warrington area who was contacted by someone on their LL purporting to be a Detective needing their assistance to  investigate crime. They asked them to recontact dialing 161 to confirm their identity and then began to defraud them of  large sums of money from their personal banks. The victim was told to tell the bank that they were withdrawing the money to purchase a house abroad if asked. They were then met locally by the individual who gave an agreed password previously set up  to exchange the cash. Having made one transaction they were then asked to carry out two further transactions which lead to a significant financial loss.

Be vigilant, do not engage with persons over the phone requesting monies. Have the confidence to come forward if you have been a victim of crime.
