News Bulletin
Runcorn Local Policing Unit, Daresbury and Windmill Hill

April 2020

Local Crime
We have had a report of a motorbike theft from a garage in the Moore area, but unfortunately, there were no CCTV opportunities in order to identify the offenders.  In the Preston Brook area, there was a report of a suspicious white van, which appeared to be looking into properties and gardens in the area.  Patrols have been stepped up and there have been no further reports. Please be vigilant to any suspicious activity and report any to 101, or 999 in an emergency.

Roads Policing
The current restrictions have seen a huge decrease in traffic on the roads; however, some motorists have been using this as an excuse to drive at speed in some areas.  Speed monitoring has been carried out in the area and I am pleased to report that most were not exceeding the speed limit.  Please continue to drive with courtesy and care for the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

Anti-social Behaviour
We have received numerous reports of off-road bikes in the area, particularly on the canal towpaths.  We appeal to residents to report where these bikes are being stored so that this can be dealt with accordingly.  If you have any further information regarding this or the identity of the riders, please contact us.
There have been a number of people spoken to who have been using the lake at Phoenix Park to fish.  This has been reported to us by local residents and members of the public.  We will continue to patrol the area on a regular basis to deter this behaviour.

Community Information
We are keen over the coming months to try to advertise the introduction of Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Daresbury and Windmill Hill via the Cheshire Alert web page. If any members of Cheshire Alert would like to set-up and become a coordinator of a watch scheme then we, as the police will offer support and advice in any way we can.  My e-mail is attached at the bottom of this newsletter and I look forward to hearing from anyone who wishes to set-up a scheme that we can get involved with.

The canal towpaths have become very busy during the lockdown period.  It can be very difficult to practice social distancing on a narrow path, so please be mindful when you are using them and give consideration and space to others.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone for continuing to stay at home and adhering to the current restrictions.  It has been a very difficult and confusing time for us all and on the whole, residents have been understanding and have not been out other than on essential journeys or to exercise.

Police Surgeries
Due to the current Covid 19 restrictions, we are unable to carry out our surgeries at Sandymoor School and Windmill Hill Children’s Centre.  We are therefore carrying out weekly virtual surgeries, which will be advertised on the Daresbury and Windmill Hill Facebook and Twitter pages.
