Whitby enjoys picturesque and well-used recreational areas including Stanney Woods nature reserve and Whitby Park.
Stanney Woods has recently benefited from accessibility and habitat improvements which created a new hard-surface path through the woodland, allowing pedestrians, pushchairs and wheelchair users to access parts which were otherwise difficult to negotiate. Habitat improvements were also carried out to enhance and reinstate ponds and ditches to benefit protected species, in particular the great crested newt.
This neighbourhood has 4,500 residential homes which are mainly privately-owned, with Council and registered social landlord owned properties representing only one per cent of the overall housing.
Local area facilities include a GP surgery, sports facilities, social clubs, primary schools, and high schools.
